It is easy to complain about other people while at Walt Disney World. Every day of your vacation you’ll encounter guests who are rude and seem to think that their trip is more important than yours. There are plenty of guests, though, who have respect for those around them. Here are ten types of guests that we admire. Look for them the next time you’re at Walt Disney World, or better yet, try to be one yourself.
10. Those Who Won’t Ruin the Magic
Guests who don’t want to ruin the magic are respectful of others. They won’t talk loudly in line about what happens on a ride, and they won’t try to “explain” how things are done. They don’t say that Mickey is really a guy in a costume when there are kids around, and they allow those who are around them to take it all in without being a know-it-all. They don’t complain loudly, and they watch their language. Guests who won’t ruin the magic want every family and group to have a fantastic time. It’s not all about them.
9. Those Who Follow the Rules
The rules at Walt Disney World are not difficult to follow, but some people have a hard time anyway. Don’t try to sneak in banned items, don’t use a flash on certain rides, smoke only in designated areas, follow height regulations, etc. The rules are there for a reason, they make things easier and safer for everyone. If everyone follows the rules, it will be a better vacation for all.
8. Those Who Are Quiet
It is annoying if you are on a ride or watching a show and you are seated near people who won’t stop talking. There are plenty of places where you can make noise, but an attraction should not be one of them. If you keep your voice down on the rides and during the shows, thank you. This, of course, does not apply to screaming on Tower of Terror.
7. Those Who Watch Their Children
Walt Disney World is not a giant playground, but some parents do not seem to understand that. They will let their kids run wild, cut people off, and do things that they would not be allowed to get away with at home. That said, there are also plenty of parents who realize that they need to keep their kids in check. Those children will have a better time because kids need structure. The parents will have a better time as well, because they won’t worry about what their children are up to. It is also safer for all.
6. Those Who Help Others
Sometimes a good deed only takes a moment. Opening a door for a woman with a stroller is an easy thing to do, but it is a huge help for the mother. If someone is lost and you know where they want to be, point the way out to them. Small acts can have big consequences and will brighten your day, as well as the day of the person who you helped.
5. Those Who Don’t Judge
It is all too easy to look at someone and make automatic assumptions. The truth is, people from all walks of life head to Walt Disney World each day. The “healthy” woman using a scooter might have a heart condition. The man who doesn’t give up a bus seat might have balance problems. The kids who “should be in school” might be homeschooled and could have just lost a grandparent. Don’t judge unless you’ve walked a mile in the other person’s shoes. 4. Those Who Don’t Cut in Line or Hold Spots
Cutting in line is a huge problem at Walt Disney World. It is one thing for a dad to hold a spot so that his wife can run their daughter to the restroom, that is not the issue. The problem occurs when one person will hold several spots so that the rest of the party can ride something with a shorter line. Not only is line cutting and holding spots rude, it is against the rules. It is a bad enough infraction that guests can be kicked out of the park for doing it. Groups who are willing to wait like everyone else are to be admired.
3. Those Rare Children Who Are Polite
As already mentioned, too often children at Walt Disney World are allowed to behave as they never would at home. Kids who are the opposite are to be admired. Even better are those children who say simple words such as “please” and “thank you”. Polite children will grow up to be polite adults. When your kids are polite on vacation, others will favorably remember them long after the vacation is over.
2. Those Who Are Nice to Cast Members
The Cast Members at Walt Disney World are responsible for making your vacation special. So why do so many people take their problems and complaints out on them? It is not a Cast Member’s fault that a Mickey Bar costs so much, or that a child is not tall enough for a ride. Most Cast Members love to make small talk with the guests, so chat it up and make their day. This is another instance where a “thank you” can go a long way. If you do need to make a complaint, please keep the anger out of your voice. No one wants to be yelled at.
1. Those Who Realize That They Aren’t the Only Ones on Vacation
If you’ve been to Walt Disney World you’ve undoubtedly seen people who think that their vacation is more important than yours. They’ll try to pass you in the parking lot, push past you at bag check, and run to get in front of you in line. They will use their strollers as weapons to plow through the crowds, and then will not know what they want to order after waiting at a counter service restaurant. Don’t be one of those people. Every person there is spending a lot of money for a Walt Disney World vacation. It is admirable to realize that, and act accordingly. Treat others as you want to be treated yourself. It’s as simple as that.
